In April 2023, I completed one of the most affirming, heart-centered trainings of my birthwork journey—Black Women Do VBAC®, created and led by the incomparable Denise Bolds, MSW Adv.CD(DONA), CLC, CBE. This training provided not only education, but validation—a deep reclamation of our ancestral birthright and a powerful reminder that Black and Brown birthing bodies hold divine wisdom.

This was more than a course—it was ceremony. I learned how to better support clients navigating surgical birth and Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC) with tools rooted in advocacy, integrity, and culturally attuned care. The training addressed racial disparities, systemic injustice, and offered a blueprint for reclaiming birth as a space of autonomy, sacred power, and joy.

As a doula, ceremonialist, and sacred health guide, this experience expanded my ability to hold space for healing and reclamation in every stage of the birthing continuum. It reminded me that our stories matter, our births matter, and our knowledge is medicine.
